In 1986 a small group of community focused, grassroots organizations joined together as the "Alternative Fund" to include new and diverse Colorado nonprofits in workplace giving campaigns. This group soon renamed themselves "Community Shares of Colorado."
Over the next 25 years we've changed a lot but our goals remain the same.
- Broaden charitable choice in Colorado
- Provide and encourage Coloradans to utilize financially accessible and cost-effective giving options
- Build the capacity of vital and vibrant Colorado nonprofits
- Drive innovation by putting unrestricted funding in the hands of local expert change-makers
Community Shares raises more than $100K for the first time in an annual giving campaign.
With Black United Fund for Colorado, Caring Connection, and Community Health Charities of Colorado the Partnership for Colorado is born! A collaboration of workplace federations serving six counties in the Metro Denver region.
We're building momentum! In 1995, Community Shares passes for the first time $500K in the annual giving campaign!

In 2010, Community Shares gets ready to celebrate its 25th year having raised more than $20 million for Colorado with an average gift of under $1 a day! Every dollar makes a difference™. Thank you!
