VOLUNTEER
Community Shares Habitat House
In February and March 2007, Community Shares of Colorado partnered with
Habitat for Humanity of Metro Denver
to build a house for the Nguyen/Mai family of Denver. Overall, 85 of our
friends, family, and representatives from our member agencies and worksite
partners volunteered 8 hours each of their time to this great cause. (That's
over 700 hours in case you are counting!) Some even contributed more than that,
with our own Alyssa Kopf putting in 3 solid days of hard labor. Some of the
folks who helped us include volunteers from:
■
Impact Denver Class of 2006 ■
Leadership Denver Class of 2006
■
AmeriCorps Members from the Flatirons Habitat For Humanity affiliate
■
Staff from our Member Agencies: Adoption Exchange, American Friends Service
■
Committee, Jefferson County Library Foundation, Lost and Found Inc., NARAL
■
Pro-Choice Colorado, and Native American
Rights Fund
■
Staff from our Worksite Partners: Colorado Capital Bank, The Hain-Celestial
■
Group, McStain Neighborhoods, National Renewable Energy Laboratory
■
Community Shares of Colorado Staff, Volunteers, Donors, and Board of Directors

A big thank you to everyone who helped us by clearing the site (in
freezing conditions), gluing sub-flooring, hammering together window frames,
creating crawl space access panels, building out the second floor - the list
goes on and on. Our formal participation ended in mid-March but we made a
lasting contribution for one family's future.
The Nguyen/Mai Family
Chuc Nguyen and Ha Mai and their two children, Thomas and will move
into their new home later this spring. Chuc
emigrated from Vietnam 10 years ago and Ha joined him here more recently. Chuc works as an assembler with a
machine company. Prior to his current job he worked in the maintenance
department at a parochial school.
Chuc and Ha live in a small apartment in dire need of repair. Water and sewer
backups are common, the bedroom ceiling leaks and sags from water damage and
there are numerous other repairs needed. Chuc looks forward to the opportunity
to put his maintenance skills to use in his own home. His current apartmentt
manager will only let him change the light bulbs.
Chuc and Ha look are excited to be moving into a stable environment that is good
for their children. They can't wait to watch their children play outside in
their own yard.
