Community shares celebrates a great October!
What an
exciting month! With our Denver office located in the heart of LoDo,
our staff was swept up in the excitement of the Rockies' strong season
finish, playoff perfection, and welcoming Colorado's first World
Series. What a lesson in the power of momentum!
Community Shares also
celebrated many accomplishments in October thanks to our MVP team of
member agencies, donors, and volunteers.
1.
Community Shares
was named
Nonprofit Organization of the Year
by the
Colorado Business Council.
The 11th Annual Gay and Lesbian Business Awards Dinner will honor
businesses and individuals that work toward the advancement of the gay,
lesbian, bisexual and transgender community.

2.
Heather Lafferty was
selected as the next CEO of
Community Shares of Colorado. Heather will join us in January of
2008. We could not be more excited to welcome such a talented, inspired
leader.
3.
Community Shares helped
complete a study of generational differences amongst donors and prepared
"Engaging Tomorrow's Donors Today: A Toolkit for Success" for
nonprofit organizations. We were also given the opportunity to present
our findings and recommendations at the
Colorado Nonprofit Association Fall Conference in October. The
conference welcomed nearly 800 attendees to discuss trends and best
practices in the nonprofit sector.
4. Through April 2008,
the Gay & Lesbian Fund for Colorado will provide a 100% match of new
gifts! If you're a current donor, any increase in your donation will be
matched, dollar for dollar! Our online giving service has evaded all
"external, malicious attacks" so you can
make a donation today! We are prepared for the onslaught of
donations!
5. We are currently reaching out
to over 250,000 donors through
the 2007 Community Giving Campaign.
Please
contact us for more information about your company's campaign or to
start a giving program at your office. We are happy to answer any
questions about our member agencies and the difference each dollar makes
to support the charities and causes you care about most.
Thank you for
your continued support!

Partners of the month
Outstanding Member Agency
Citizens Project
Citizens Project has been a great partner for Community Shares since
becoming a member in 1996. After helping establish our Pikes Peak
Chapter, Citizens Project has been very active in strengthening
Community Shares' presence in the Colorado Springs area.
Congratulations to Barb Ferrill Van Hoy for her recent promotion to
Executive Director of Citizens Project. Barb has been instrumental in
helping Community Shares recruit a number of businesses for workplace
giving campaigns including the Pikes Peak Area Council of Governments,
which provides our nonprofit agencies access and visibility to many more
potential donors and people in need of services.
Outstanding Workplace
City & County of Broomfield
The City & County of Broomfield has a strong sense of pride with a
self-supporting community, proactive citizens of all ages, and solid
neighborhood networks. These values are echoed by Broomfield employees
through their Annual Giving Campaign. Beginining last year, Broomfield
welcomed the Partnership for Colorado, a nonprofit coalition which
includes Community Shares, to all employee benefit meetings. We reached
over 500 city employees and helped create an inspiring energy for
giving. This year we're excited to continue the momentum and see
Broomfield's highest giving total yet! Community Shares is grateful for
the opportunity to partner with a government agency committed to
promoting the culture of giving.
