Message
from Community Shares Interim CEO
Summer
is flying by! I hope you all set aside time to enjoy Colorado's
fantastic summer highlights including outdoor concerts and
cinema, local farmers' markets, and our beautiful mountains and
rivers. As we prepare for this fall's giving campaign, we are
looking forward to seeing our workplace givers to extend our
thanks for all of their contributions to the community. Last
year, with an “everyday philanthropist” average gift of under $1
per day, we raised $1.57 million for local nonprofit
organizations in our Community Giving Campaign!
After three years of outstanding leadership as CEO of Community
Shares of Colorado, Jesse Wolff has accepted the position of
President and CEO of The Kempe Foundation for the Prevention and
Treatment of Child Abuse and Neglect, one of our excellent
member nonprofit organizations. We thank Jesse for
demonstrating that a personal investment of time and caring lies
at the heart of all philanthropy.
While the board of directors completes the search for our next
leader, I have happily accepted the opportunity to serve as
Interim CEO of Community Shares of Colorado. During my five
years with Community Shares, I have learned fulfilling our
mission, connecting Coloradans to the charities and causes they
care about most, means we welcome and appreciate everyone who
contributes to building a more vital and vibrant community. I
encourage you to contact me with any questions about our work at
Community Shares, your thoughts on philanthropy and
community-based giving, or just to say "hello". At Community
Shares, our door is always open!
Alyssa Kopf, Interim CEO

Be an everyday philanthropist!
Each
day we all make small choices that collectively make a large
impact. Recycling one aluminum can saves enough energy to run a
television for three hours. Foregoing a morning latte can
provide a week of medical treatment and food for a sheltered
animal. Collecting 50 cents in spare change can pay for the
immunization of an uninsured child. Considerate actions and
incremental giving make us all "everyday philanthropists".
Thanks for taking the steps to create a better community!

Summer Scholars
In the summer of 1993, Summer Scholars started their first
Summer Program providing literacy tutoring to 20 students in one
elementary school. Fourteen years later, enrollment for the
Summer Program exceeds 1,000 students through 20 Denver Public
Schools. Now Summer Scholars offers year-round After-School and
Family Literacy programs and is recognized as a model for
literacy assistance programs across the country. Summer
Scholars is a great partner for Community Shares, pledging
support to our member nonprofits through an annual Employee
Giving Campaign and volunteering staff support for Community
Shares' events and giving campaigns. Click

Outstanding Workplace
Denver Business Journal
The Denver Business Journal is an excellent resource for keeping
tabs on the people and companies stirring the city's economy.
The Journal features articles on all sectors of the business
world including nonprofits and Good Works, a section
highlighting corporate philanthropy. This November, the Denver
Business Journal will be publishing their second annual Giving
Guide, a directory of local nonprofits, sponsored by local
businesses. The Giving Guide is a perfect tool for people and
businesses to support nonprofit services in the community. The
Denver Business Journal also supports Community Shares
nonprofits by offering employees the opportunity to give through
Paycheck Contributions. Community Shares is proud to recognize
the Denver Business Journal as our Outstanding Workplace for
