Letter from the Community Shares CEO
Dear Friends,
It is a tradition in my
family to talk about the highlights of the previous year on New
Years Day. I enjoy reminiscing about the milestone moments that
make a year memorable, as well as the many blessings that are
often taken for granted. This special time is also reserved for
dreaming about the future and the many unexpected moments ahead.
For me, 2007 was
illustrated by a week in New Orleans working alongside hurricane
victims still rebuilding their homes and lives, the completion
of my first triathlon, and the birth of my best friend’s
daughter on my birthday. It is also marked with a bittersweet
moment. After more than 8 years of working with Habitat for
Humanity, an organization I deeply respect and love, I decided
to take the next step in the adventure I call my career. I am
honored to be joining such a talented team of staff, board
members, donors and volunteers at Community Shares who aspire to
make our community a better place for all of us.
It is my hopes and plans
for the next year that had me most animated during our family
discussion. I am excited about my new role as the CEO of
Community Shares because I am passionate about what we can
accomplish working together. I believe we have a shared
responsibility for our world and for its future. We are blessed
with every resource we need to create healthy communities where
people can grow and thrive, children and animals are loved and
nurtured, and the environment is cherished and protected.
However, we can’t rely on government and business to do it all.
Instead, I believe that every human being is responsible and
that everyone can make a difference.
I look forward to meeting
with you in 2008 to learn more about your vision for the future
and your partnership with Community Shares. Philanthropy is
inspiring because of what it accomplishes, and you reflect those
accomplishments in our community. You are saving lives,
building hope, creating opportunities for commonality,
protecting our natural resources, offering dignity and opening
doors to brighter futures. Ultimately, you are sharing the
responsibility for making our community a better place for all
of us.
On behalf of Community Shares, thank you very much and happy new
year!
