Community Shares' Habitat house
Community Shares is partnering with
Habitat for Humanity of Metro Denver to build a house starting in
January! Come help us change lives by contributing your time, energy
and talent (and some good old-fashioned elbow grease) to our home-build
project. Volunteers commit to one full day shift (9:00 a.m. to 4:30
p.m.). There are many shifts available on Thursdays, Fridays and
Saturdays throughout February.
Click here to see available dates and the latest information on the
project. Please contact
Beth Kaspar at 303-861-7507 ext. 6 to sign up today!
New Charitable
Donation Tax Deduction Guidelines for 2007!
The passing of the Pension
Protection Act of 2006 by the U.S. Congress includes some important
changes for individuals who deduct charitable gifts. As related to
Community Shares donors, two key components will impact reporting gifts
beginning January 1, 2007:
Individuals can no longer "self-report"
gifts under $250; they must provide either a bank record of the gift or
a receipt from the charitable organization. All charities are
legally required to send donors a receipt for any one-time monetary
gifts over $250. In 2007 be sure to request a receipt for donations
under $250 if you deduct your charitable gifts.
Deducting paycheck contribution gifts
will require two documents: a paystub, W-2 form, or other document from
your employer AND a copy of the pledge form. A paycheck
deduction gift technically counts as a series of one-time gifts. (e.g.
If you donate $20 each paycheck and are paid twice a month, it is
legally considered twenty-four separate $20 gifts totaling $480 at the
end of the year, not a one-time $480 gift.) Community Shares cannot
send you a receipt for you gift when you make the initial pledge because
we have not received the donation; we receive distribution payments from
your workplace over the course of the year. Please keep a copy of your
pledge form and your paystub, W-2 form or other document from your
employer showing the deductions.
