Building Community
Community Shares’ Building Community Program connects individuals with community involvement opportunities. We leverage our relationships with charities, donors, and businesses to increase community participation, citizen education, volunteerism and philanthropy across the state.
In addition, our staff’s commitment to community leadership includes: graduation from the Denver Metro Chamber Leadership Foundation's programs Leadership Denver and Impact Denver, serving as a Commissioner for the Denver Office of Strategic Partnerships, sitting on the Colorado Nonprofit Association regional advisory committee, participating in the National Philanthropy Day in Colorado's awards selection, participation with Colorado Funders for Inclusiveness and Equity, sponsorship of the Our 3 Summit, board of director and advisory board leadership on Denver Young Nonprofit Professionals Network, and a fellowship with the Center for Progressive Leadership.
A core component of our Building Community Program is the upcoming launch of the My Colorado Project.
The development of the next generation of philanthropists and community leaders is essential to the local culture of giving. Community Shares is developing the My Colorado Project to engage young community members (age 25-39) in basic philanthropy, volunteerism, and community leadership. My Colorado™ will introduce an online social media network – imagine a My Space of Facebook focused on local community investment – and invite young donors to explore individual philanthropic interestes and invite their frinds to get involved. Rather than following the traditional fundraising model of seeking a gift from those with means, My Colorado proposes offering young people the means to give.
